u s of a power plants account for the most of greenhouse gases and other pollutants

Seems that it is nearly impossible to get a permit, the ideologue effect.

so what does the department of energy have against nuclear energy

too many citizens saying no or the problems storing nuclear waste

ps i am in favor of nuclear power

Have you looked into financing? Insurance?

Do you understand that of 104 nuclear plants in the US (including ones currently under construction) all of them, every one, broke ground before 1974? All of them, not one broke ground after 1974. Even the one that may come online in 2012 in Tennessee broke ground in 1973.

We can do better than that.

Do you understand that no one will finance a new plant? That the government failed to provide a safe repository for spent rods as they promised?

That a new plant is estimated to cost 18 billion and that that cost would likely double if not more before completion?

Do you understand that much of that cost is within the regulation and licensing? Do you fully recognize that other nations do this regularly at lower costs?

Ideologue much?

1. Was Japan's plant cheaper?
2. Hired a certified welder lately?
3. Bought any seamless stainless steel pipe lately?
4. Safely disposed of spent nuclear fuel lately?
5. I am in favor of new nukes. It is my understanding that financing is un-available, primarily due to the disposal issue.

Why not just reclaim it? France reclaims somewhere around 90% of their waste.

That'd be bitterly ironic. Emissions from coal are about 2x radioactive as nuclear waste.

Thing is coal provides almost half of our electricity, and it is a huge market for them. It is in their best interests to block new nukes.
I am quite certain the coal lobby is responsible.
