Dec 17 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday said President Donald Trump's administration cannot bar members of Congress from making unannounced visits to immigrant detention facilities.

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb in Washington, D.C., said U.S. Department of Homeland Security policies deeming Immigration and Customs Enforcement field offices "off-limits for congressional oversight" and requiring seven days' notice for visits violated federal law.

Another day, another idiot judge overstepping their authority.

Cobb, a Biden appointee, seems to have missed the Supreme Court's ruling that she can't issue nationwide injunctions like the one she has in this case. So, her ruling is clearly illegal on that basis alone.

The other issue is that the reason notice is required isn't so the facility can hide something, but rather that a visit from some member of Congress requires the facility to ensure that person's safety, and that the visit doesn't disrupt the facility's operations. Taking a worst-case scenario here: Some congress critter shows up at the facility in the middle of a lockdown for some violence going on with the inmates. The congress critter demands to be let in to observe.

That is asinine. This person wants to disrupt the facility as it responds to an emergency. They're just getting in the way, but they want to abuse their privilege as a member of congress to make the facility look bad or something. That too could be the case.

Or, they show up during operations when the inmates are out of say a meal or something. Again, safety has to be considered. Can the congress critter override the safe operation of the facility because they demand to see X or Y and what's going on?

This "judge" is an idiot and apparently ignorant of recent rulings that affect her scope of power.
