Deterioration of the Washington Post’s subscriber base continued on Tuesday, hours after its proprietor, Jeff Bezos, defended the decision to forgo formally endorsing a presidential candidate as part of an effort to restore trust in the media.

The publication has now shed 250,000 subscribers, or 10% of the 2.5 million customers it had before the decision was made public on Friday, according to the NPR reporter David Folkenflik.

The Washington Post is a reminder of the dangers of billionaire ownership

But for the Post, which has been teetering for decades, any loss in subscribers is threatening. Hundreds of good journalists who had no influence on Bezos’s decision remain unsure of the viability of their employer. Residents of the District of Columbia and much of Virginia and Maryland also rely on the Post for coverage of state and local issues, culture and sports. All of this is threatened by Bezos’s decision and the public uprising against it.

This is being discussed quite a bit. Many are saying that the reporters/editors are being punished for Bezos' actions and people shouldn't cancel subscriptions. This will not affect Bezos one iota. Hell...he just gave up 1/3 of his net worth in his divorce and he's still laughing.

If people are concerned about Bezos' worry that a president trump will come for him after an election win, then STOP buying crap from Amazon.

Cancelling your Wapo subscription is less meaningful than flicking a booger at Bezos.

Thank god people are cancelling their subscription. It is a national story.

Yes. Feelgood moment, but sadly Bezos will not suffer one bit. Supposedly, however, WAPO will continue to report on what an asshole that trump is.

Too late. Blowback already started.
Get back to us when there is a movement against Amazon. Until then, this is a fart in the wind.

This reminds me of the massive marches against trump when he got elected. I had to wonder how many women in those massive crowds didn't bother to vote because they hated Hillary?

Yes it is. But the truth is, it's about Bezos. HE made the decision. Not WAPO staff. He bought the rag because he's a narcissist. Do you honestly believe he cares? All news publications are losing money. He lost $77 million last year. Chump change to him.

People will forget about this the moment Harris wins.
