I am 51, so I am shocked by the number of younger people in higher positions with tattoos. It is a generational difference thing. I have not seen anyone with a face tattoo making a six figure salary (outside of entertainment), but I have seen stock brokers with neck tattoos. It is bizarre.

The difference seems to be education. If you have an engineering degree from UPenn, you can have a neck tattoo and go far in life. If you have a high school diploma from Wyoming and that is it, your skin can be pristine, and NO ONE CARES!!!

I agree, the tattoos are shocking. I disagree that they are a deal breaker these days. Bizarre times huh?

It would be if my company were doing business in Asia. Tattoos are a huge social negative throughout Asia. They are seen as something only criminals and idiots get and can be a serious issue for professional settings. This is very serious in Japan, but Koreans and Chinese, along with most other Asians take tattoos as a serious and highly negative issue.

Even in Europe they are not considered an asset in the business world. In Dar al Islam, tattoos are Haram. That is both forbidden and unclean. Again, an issue for an employee having them.

On the whole, business does give a fuck and a serious one in larger corporations. There may be some parts of the business world that shrugs over them, but I'd say it's a distinct minority.

That is the huge change. When I was young, if you were East Asian, and had a tattoo, you were a bad ass. Like in and out of prison bad ass. Now I am dealing with Asian Americans with PHD's and tattoos.

The East Asians are a generation behind on this shift, but they are catching up. You are correct that it is serious, but it is changing rapidly.
