In 1992 when President Clinton tried to change the law that barred Gay's from serving openly in the military he met with STRONG resistance and huge backlash. President Clinton eventually caved and instituted the terrable "dont ask, dont tell" policy. While it was improvement, it was VERY little improvement.

Today as President Obama is pushing forward with a plan to allow gays to serve openly there is almost no resistance.

We truely are moving from Darkness to Light and from Conservative to Liberal!

I am proud of AMERICA, the change is slow, but it is constant PROGRESS!
 
now lets get off the libtard hardly no one cares to decriming cannabis where j800,000 are jailed annually. Is anyone jailed for being gay?
 
Now before anyone flies off the handle about that comment I mean it in jest. As the only RR person on the board right now I felt it my bounded duty to respond like that. :)
 
We have come a long way since Reagan tried to force Prayer in Public Schools and since Clinton was unable to overturn the ban on gays in the military!

Hopefully Cannabis will be next!

Byrd, D-W.Va., offered similar proposals in 1962, 1973, 1979, 1982, 1993, 1995 and 1997.

Reagan offered the Amendment once, Sen. Byrd (D) 7 times...and I've already proved to you in another thread Reagan and Byrd were proposing essentially exactly the same idea....do you need me to post it again, clown...???

Constitutional Amendment - Declares that: (1) to secure the people's right to acknowledge God according to the dictates of conscience, neither the United States nor any State shall establish any official religion, but the people's right to pray and to recognize their religious beliefs, heritage, or traditions on public property, including schools, shall not be infringed; and (2) neither the United States nor any State shall require any person to join in prayer or other religious activity, prescribe school prayers, discriminate against religion, or deny equal access to a benefit on account of religion.


Very different, Reagans Amendment basically allows schools to perscribe school prayers... Byrds merely protects the students individual right to pray.

I agree with Byrds and disagree with Reagans.

So you were wrong in the other thread...neither mandates prayer or prohibits voluntary prayer....

And your other concerns were and are, already defined by rulings of the court...they are settled issues that need not even be addressed by these Amendments....We still would have the original First Amendment....

The Amendments speak for themselves, omitting every conceivable issue does not in effect condone those issues....

Byrds Amendment prohibited schools from writing a set prayer....

Reagans Amendment allowed schools to write a set prayer.

That was the issue and the reason for the two sepperate Amendemnts.
