What is a well regulated militia?

I would love to compare what lefties and righties perceive as a well regulated militia, please post what you think it is.

A group of guys who can't handle their own business without the need for a gang.

A group who has a hierarchy, engages in routine training for various situations, and which is ready to defend against attackers. In those days, with no standing army, it was necessary for communities to have their own defense against attack whether from outside enemies or robbers or whatever.

A trained and controlled group of non professional soldiers. They require supervision and training. It is not some dork at home with an arsenal.

A body of civilians who are trained, competent, and armed equally to the task of preventing government tyranny.

I'd say my friends and acquaintances at my gun club would qualify.
We're all proficient with our firearms, many are veterans as well.
