Since Trump has repeatedly labelled all these investigations a hoax and claim that he "did nothing wrong", what can he possibly fear from an open Senate trial with a full complement of witnesses that he blocked from testifying to the House Inel Committee? Not only that, he has a 54- majority of Repub senators ready to have his back. If all this were really on the up and up, McxConnell could have struck a deal with Schumer/Pelosi over Senate rules for the trial before the Xmas break. So, one must ask ":What is there to be afraid of?" Well, it's pretty simple: What is to be feared is the TRUTH.
