What is up with Musk's emerald mine?

Back To Reality
Elon Musk's owned an emerald mine, which helped pay for his son's education. As much as Musk keeps trying to deny that, it is just a fact. Every other member of his family confirms it.

There is nothing wrong with owning an emerald mine. If it produces, it is a good investment (either through skill or luck). If reasonably run, it helps the local community through providing employment.

So why is Musk so adamant in denying that the emerald mine ever existed? His father says it is an attempt by Musk to seem like he went through hard times, and maybe that is it.

His sister says Musk was the only member of the family to regularly visit the mine, and other than their father, the only member of the family ever to visit the mine. Most, but not all, mines in Zambia during that time period were humanitarian nightmares, with children chained to mining equipment, and the like.

Maybe the Musk mine was different, or maybe Musk paid for his American education through child slave labor.
