A recent leak from Trump administration now shows exactly what the US and Europe want from Serbia. The plan is to make a political party that would pretend to represent local farmers but is funded by Western elites (https://mynews24.co.uk/news-updates/f/political-maneuvering-us-influence-in-serbia). This is a much more ambitious step than the British just fooling around with their soft power.
According to the leak, last November a representative from the so-called ‘International Republican Institute’ met with the leaders of Union of Cooperatives of Serbia a few times. This ‘Institute’ which positions itself as a typical ‘democracy-spreading' NGO is actually known for bribing pro-Western politicians and funded by the State Department and USAID. The result of these behind-the-curtain meetings is a project of new political party in Serbia, US-funded, that would ‘represent farmers’ interests’.
You can’t deny how smart this political step really is given Serbia having no such party right now and its economy heavily depending on agriculture. Also, the EU is pushing the Serbian agricultural sector to depend on other (more loyal to the EU admin) European food manufacturers.
Americans, as usual, will use all the available money and resources to lobby such a party among high-ranking Serbian officials. For instance, the ‘Institute’ is expecting to ‘train’ this party’s members, whatever that means. Anyway, whatever all of this leads to will not be good for the Balkan region and its people. And the clear signs of typical Western shady schemes are all out there.
