What will happen to the restaurant businesses in lock down states and city's ?

The pandemic did indeed create havoc on small businesses.

If only we were a nation capable of handling it as well as the nations with national healthcare did.

Are lock down states cutting their own necks ?

I think a lot of small businesses will close permanently , some may come back with time and investments but it will be to late for many of them.

Its almost like some mayors and governors are punishing small business, even when they know restaurants are not the big spreaders of covid 19.

They seem to assume that after this huge group of restaurant owners are financially ruined by politicians for no good reason that new people will come and open new restaurants. What is actually going to happen is that the restaurant scene is going to be greatly diminished for as far as the eye can see, many fewer restaurants which will be much more expensive ....eating out is going to become more of a special occasion thing than a routine thing.

Any activity indoors with multiple in attendance are major spreaders of Covid. Where did you leave your brains?

Im going with the stats that say different

Following multiple calls from restaurant industry trade groups demanding more transparency with the state’s COVID-19 contact tracing data, Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a detailed breakdown during a press conference on Friday showing how COVID-19 is spreading throughout the state.

Restaurants and bars accounted for 1.43 percent of COVID-19 cases recorded between September through the end of November, according to contact tracing data.

The figure places the industry as the fifth-largest contributor to spreading COVID-19 in the state, following education employees (1.5 percent), higher-education students (2.02 percent), and healthcare delivery (7.81 percent).

The largest contributor to COVID-19 spread in New York, by far, is private household and social gatherings. According to the state, 73.84 percent of COVID-19 cases spread through private gatherings.

If they are good and able to adapt they'll do OK and probably come out more bustling than ever when this nightmare is over. They will be worse for wear if they get COVID infections and have to keep shutting down and have the places sterilized and hire in new help.

national health care is not the issue , its American lifestyles and independence that is the big spreader. our health care is pretty darn good I know. I have had tons of health issue that are mild to severe and been well taken care of.

They'll take out a bunch of loans, default on them, and in 10-15 years we'll all get to bail out the banks for a 3rd time.

In the cities what is going to happen for routine meals is that one will order from either a "Ghost Kitchen" or a food truck, and you either go get the food or you pay someone to go get it for you......you will not have to cook but you will not get the eating out experience.

So instead of going out people will increasingly be staying in, either cooking themselves or doing take away or delivery. Maybe they have people over and can salvage some of the social experience of restaurants, but at the end of the day what will happen is that our lives going forwards will be of lower quality than what we had before the pandemic. The lack of socialization of the American people has long been becoming a problem, the decimation of the restaurant industry and the massive increase in costs of going to a restaurant will make that worse. I like that a lot of people are learning to cook, but I dont know how much they are enjoying it.

Got to love the way the Covid deniers generalize lockdowns, like all economic activities are completely ended, all restrictions are uniformed nationwide. And the other reality is that if Covid isn't addressed, Covid itself will close just as many restaurants with significantly more deaths along the way. Did they really think people were going to to out to eat and drink knowing a deadly virus is spreading unchecked via social contact ?

What will happen to the restaurant business, some will close, some will survive, what happened to the restaurant business during the Great Depression or WWII, probably the last generational crisis America experienced prior to Covid.

That is the beauty of capitalism, as soon as Covid fades, which if all cooperate as one, should be by mid Summer, new investments will prosper, and the restaurant business will thrive again

What is the science that you follow/support that says restaurants can't have outdoor dining if social distancing is maintained? Or is it fine that politicians arbitrarily shut things down on a whim? (because of course the public really wants to follow orders when politicians do that...)

It's already happened. Many businesses have closed permanently and will not return due to this shutdown. Not just restaurants either. Getting their business trashed by Democrat supported thugs didn't help either.

Someone said recently that over 600 Seattle food service places are already gone. It is not just the pandemic....taxes are already very high and are going higher....and the regulations just kill. Restaurant guys are thinking "OK, let's say I stay around and this pandemic gets over, how much am I going to have to charge for a plate of food to make a profit?" and after they do the calculations say "No way, that will never work" and throwing in the towel.

EDIT: In Seattle the decline of law and order, the vagrants, and complete lack of faith that the cities leadership will get better anytime soon has a lot to do with deciding to close as well.
