Tranquillus in Exile

I borrowed this from Janet Daley, an American academic and journalist who has lived in Britain for many years.
"What Brexit is really about would be like the United States joining a pan-American union in which US trade policies are determined in Buenos Aires, and decisions of the Supreme Court can be overruled by judges sitting in Rio de Janeiro. Can you imagine any US politician, left or right, accepting such a thing, let alone enthusing about it?"
Daley is a moderate conservative who strongly supports Brexit, and equally strongly detests Trump.
What is this, you say? Didn't the Brits suddenly turn into ignorant, xenophobic bigots, and that's why a majority voted to leave the ever-closer EU? That's Trumpism! Isn't it?
