What's good for the goose!

Shaken, not stirred!
I am so sick and tired of political conservatives knee-jerk defense of corporations that do evil against society. Case in point: Merck pharmaceuticals SHOULD NOT EXIST as it was proven in court that they knowingly marketed a product that could kill people (which it did). Instead, a few personnel shuffles, some money paid out, and Merck is STILL in business.....defenders saying that shutting them down would hurt thousands of employees, etc., etc.

Well, who said that there are not people who could easily replace the entire Merck leadership, board of directors and such? And if the "logic" is that they've learned their lesson and will never do it again, then why not release THOUSANDS OF PRISONERS doing time for 1 murder? After all, they've learned their lesson, paid their debt and promise to never do it again, right?

And Obama once again displays his "right of center" Dem side by protecting Monsanto's never ending quest to fuck up the world! God indeed bless America, because we need all the help we can get!

I don't get it other than money talks.

Sorry to inform you, but the surviving family members of the over 27,000 dead due to Vioxx are most likely NOT impressed with your list.

About 20 million Americans had taken Vioxx by the time Merck withdrew it, thats .135% death rate, but
No, nothing excuses Merck, if they withheld information....and someone should be held to account.....

Even the FDA that approved the drug in 1999 should take some responsibility......especially in that they knew the dangers in 2000 and required Merck
to put warnings on the label........too little too late.

My point was that saying "Merck pharmaceuticals SHOULD NOT EXIST" is going a little over reaction....they have certainly had a hand in saving lives too.....
I should have made that clearer.

So 1/10th of 1 percent of the people that took Vioxx had heart attacks that MAY have ATTRIBUTED to the heart attack... and you think for that the company should no longer exist?

We would have ZERO pharmaceutical companies if we did that. Which means no medication for you at all... for anything.

The entire Management, Board of directors, researchers....any and everyone who knew better should have been sacked....and replace with new management (and a new name, if possible). It's been done before when companies fail or are taken over, so why not when they commit homicide on a mass scale?

You're such a toadie, Freak....you kiss corporate ass with a reaction time that would put Pavlov's dogs to shame.

There's no such thing as "may have" it DID happen! A matter of record and historical fact in the court of law. The victims families could care less about your stats...and if YOU are willing to put YOUR kids on the sacrificial alter of corporate greed, that's your business...so much more to pity you.

We put people away for LIFE for the murder of 1 person in this country.....mass homicide from a product they KNEW had a high probability of death should be treated no different.

But I'm afraid there is a 'may have'.....people have heart attacks on a large scale all over the country and we don't know WHAT part the drug played in
each and every occurrence......
out of 20 million people, many would have had heart attacks with or without taking the drug.....that .135% that could be traced directly back to
taking the medicine could be substantially lower......

I appreciate your concern, but as of right now, its an over reaction......

And your 'murder' bullshit is just plain bullshit......murder is intentional.....its a strawman......

LMAO... no such thing as may have, yet the article YOU linked to said... 'may have'... ok Zappa.

again, by your standards, we would have NO pharmaceutical companies. None. No one would take the risk of creating a new drug. EVER.

Excellent post!

"What the heck if a few people die...at least we made money."

Everyone watch the greedy Rightie justify murder in the name of profitability.

Again... what do you propose? By your standard there would be NO pharma companies.

It has nothing to do with profitability. It has to do with whether or not you want pharmaceuticals to exist.

You are so completely dishonest on this matter that you ignore the words in the very link that YOU provided. Why is that Zappa?

Notice no one wants to put any 'blame' on the FDA to okayed the drug, even after requiring a warning label in 2000....

Now if it happened in 2002 when Bush was president, I would wager it would a whole different story......

So a company puts out a drug that they KNOW has a better than average potential to kill it's users, and YOU are quibbling about stats??!!?? It's a BIG difference from drugs that are pulled from the market AFTER they are discovered to cause a HIGH incidence of fatalities that didn't show up in the pre-sale testing.

Sorry, but no matter how spotless and helpful a person is, the second they knowingly and willingly contribute to a death of an innocent, they are prosecuted as a CRIMINAL, and sentenced accordingly.

Why should a corporation be treated any different?

Oh, and a primer for your education:

FDA Estimates Vioxx Caused 27,785 Deaths
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates that Vioxx may have contributed to 27,785 heart attacks
