interesting chart, WM....I'm wondering though....how is it that spending around a trillion dollars in stimulus money only increased the deficit by .3 trillion.....
Because it's spread out over several years.

So THAT explains why nothing gets done in your operation. Always had a hunch, but you just confirmed it.Big Gubmint wants to help you.
Schedule A, 5 CFR 213.3102(t) for Hiring People with Mental Retardation states that federal authority is used to appoint persons with cognitive disabilities (mental retardation) who meet the eligibility requirements.
Upon completion of 2 years of satisfactory performance, even you, Billy, may qualify for conversion to the competitive service.

I've been gainfully employed for almost 5 years now. I thought with all those trillions you spend, you'd be able to track me better. I mean seriously, you're gonna have to add a second line into the NICS just for me.Plenty gets done, Billy.
Tomorrow, Big Gubmint will be spending hundreds of millions of dollars while you scan the want ads.

What?
The Bill of Rights simply reiterates some of what the Government can't do; it is basically superfluous. The People retain all rights and grant the Government specific enumerated powers in Article III, Section 8.you don't think the amendments spell out what the government can't do?
Thanks. I went to check that but misplaced my dog-eared copy, my desk is a fucking mess and my Google desktop hasn't re-indexed since I rebuild my computer weeks ago. That's Article I, Section 8, not Article III.

Conservatism.
Why include the war spending and no other kind of spending? Like the big 3 of SS, Medicare, Medicaid, any of which on their own blow away war spending.
http://www.federalbudget.com/
Without even just one of those, not only would we have no deficit up until just a year ago, we would also have close to no debt.
And unlike wars which end, those only grow in spending as more and more become dependent on government.
Of course it would, do you know what an unfunded liability is? Do you know how big and growing that unfunded liability is with the current demographic projections?Dano, each of those programs has a special tax attached to it that pays for them. If you got rid of the program and the tax, it would do nothing to pay down the deficit. If you want to reduce the deficit, good job convincing people to give up all security in their old age and in case they lose their job without cutting taxes.
Sadly true enough, even though none were created because of any crisis in retirement or healthcare. But Medicare and Medicaid could still be cut dramatically and not lose a politician much.Besides, the point is clear and obvious. They are just talking about modern programs that were recently passed. No one in the mainstream it nuts enough to abolish SS, medicare, or medicaid.

"The 2009 Social Security and Medicare Trustees Reports show the combined unfunded liability of these two programs has reached nearly $107 trillion in today's dollars! That is about seven times the size of the U.S. economy and 10 times the size of the outstanding national debt.
The unfunded liability is the difference between the benefits that have been promised to current and future retirees and what will be collected in dedicated taxes and Medicare premiums. Last year alone, this debt rose by $5 trillion. If no other reform is enacted, this funding gap can only be closed in future years by substantial tax increases, large benefit cuts or both.
Social Security versus Medicare. Politi*cians and the media focus on Social Security's financial health, but Medicare's future liabilities are far more ominous, at more than $89 trillion. Medicare's total unfunded liability is more than five times larger than that of Social Security. In fact, the new Medicare prescription drug benefit enacted in 2006 (Part D) alone adds some $17 trillion to the projected Medicare shortfall - an amount greater than all of Social Security's unfunded obligations. And all I wrote presupposes that I would even eliminate the payroll deductions associated with those programs, they could (and really should) be amalgamated into the regular tax rates so we can cut the bullshit accounting tricks. At the end of the day the government spends x more amount of dollars than it takes in (from however it chooses to name it's revenue streams).
Sadly true enough, even though none were created because of any crisis in retirement or healthcare. But Medicare and Medicaid could still be cut dramatically and not lose a politician much.
this country should be able to run without deficit with over 2T in tax receipts every year. Go look at how much more that is then every other country in the entire world who doesn't have deficit problems AND doesn't rape there people for taxes as much.
