Boston City Council upholds sanctuary city status
“Together we’ll continue to stand with our immigrant neighbors and build a more inclusive Boston in the face of mass deportation threats,” city council president Ruthzee Louijeune said during the meeting.
The move follows Boston Mayor Michelle Wu telling local outlet WCVB last month the city would not cooperate with any mass deportation efforts of the incoming Trump administration. Wu was a member of the city council the year the Trust Act was enacted.
The council also recognized members of the Massachusetts Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Committee and lauded them for their work.
“They enrich our culture, drive our economy and embody the diversity that makes our city so vibrant,” Louijeune said of individuals who benefit from TPS.
