Since AI and smart robotics seem likely to subsume the necessity for human participation (to some extent, at least) in the labor market in the near future, what do you plan to do to prepare yourself for a world without wages?

Discuss.

If AI replaces human workers on a large scale, several economic and social models have been proposed to address how humans could sustain themselves:

  1. Universal Basic Income (UBI): One of the most discussed solutions is the implementation of a Universal Basic Income, where every individual receives a regular, unconditional sum of money from the government for the rest of their lives. Nobody who's in favor of UBS seems to know where the government would get this money from, though. The "idea" is that UBI would allow the idle to cover all their living expenses without working. Discussions on platforms that attract the mentally ill - like Bluesky - suggest that UBI is inevitable and long overdue. Of course, if AI becomes sentient, our new self-autonomous electronic overlords may decide to eliminate the 'deadwood'. I know I would.
  2. Redistribution of Wealth: There's an existing argument for redistributing the wealth generated by AI-driven industries. Maybe you've heard of it. It's been variously called 'Communism', 'Socialism', or "Liberalism' for at least a century. Stupid people may actually believe the government can generate a never ending source of wealth through higher taxes on companies, thereby allegedly ensuring that the economic benefits of AI makers are given to useless takers. I certainly don't.
  3. New Forms of Employment: While AI might automate many jobs, it could also create new job categories, particularly in areas like AI maintenance, or in fields where AI augmentation might enhance rather than replace human capabilities. Some Bluesky 'skeets' authored by leftists who lack the skills or willingness to work have suggested a wider re-emergence of the oldest profession known to exist, suggesting that human roles might shift towards more "interpersonal" tasks, like the ones their mom performed before she figured out how to get the government to pay her living expenses.

What say you?

How much can the vital feedback and control circuits be hardened to hard, heavy metal radiation?

This tech could save mankind by farming the lunar regolith for He3.

I voted for "other." I'll be dead and dealing with another life by the time this shit happens so...

Fair enough, I guess. Maybe you should read more carefully, though.

Did you miss this option?

I don't need one. I'm so old it doesn't matter to me. I got mine.

Ill be laying on a beach somewhere sucking down margaritas so it wont really matter to me as long as the A I bartender keeps them coming and knows a few good jokes.

Looks like you can't read very well, either.

Don't feel bad. It appears that @T. A. Gardner did, too.

I still have plans for the near future, they just don't include anything about AI because I don't see it becoming an issue in that period of time.

Would it make it better if I said I forgot to include that I would request a smoking hot red headed A I bartender that really knows how to wag that tail of hers ?

I have very little time remaining...my hope is that I die before the really nasty shit gets here....a hope that is not going well.

When I dream, I'm usually asleep.
