Where Do You Stand on the Death Penalty

for Guns? Yeah, thisthread is going to get hijacked, but...

The mayor of Omaha has proposed amending the gun laws so that all guns used in the commission of a crime be destroyed. Apparently, it's the guns fault and they need to be punished severely. How freaking stupid can you get?

They ought to sell them and use the proceeds for restitution.

Are there any statistics that he sites about something like guns being used more than once?

What usually happens to gun used in crime if they're found? They're usually destroyed anyway, aren't they? Guns put in evidence don't get sold.

The more I think about it, if it comes between destroying the weapon or putting it back on the street, like String wants to do, by selling it back, why the hell not just destroy it? One less gun on the street.

You are a retard. Geezez, study some economics. It does not make one less gun. It only means one more gun must be manufactured to meet demand.

Or one more stolen from a law abiding citizen. Or smuggled into the country. Besides why not sell it back? They do it with cars and other things confiscated by the police. The money made from selling the gun could be put to good use.

No, Mr. Mediocre, the gun was owned by a man who is now a felon. He is no longer able to buy a gun and his demand is gone from the market. The gun put back on the market would be a surplus of what the market demanded before the man's conviction.

Obviously, if these illegal guns trangress against the law of the land they should be lined up against the wall and shot forthwith.

I think guns should be melted down and made into playground equipment, like goals for football, basketball, soccer and hockey, and backdrops for baseball.

But I am just a silly girl...

But the new gun will cost much more than the used one sold at auction or sale. better economics ;) Plus it will provide employment and profit at the manufacturing, distribution and retail level.

I just think it is silly for law enforcement to be in the business of putting guns into the marketplace.

It isn't a zero sum game. All it does is make it so that I must purchase a new one when I want to legally own a weapon, it enriches the manufacturer rather than create a form of restitution for victims. Spectacular. Real freaking compassionate man...

They consistently resell their own firearms. What is the difference?

The victims get money from the sale of the confiscated weapons ? Maybe in some areas butt not in KY.

No, in this case it is only the cops that get the money. Usually they are trading in their weapon for a new one.

My point is, they resell their own weapons, why not create a system where such weapons are resold and their victims would get restitution from the sale?

correct I don't think they should sell their own guns to the publilc either , perhaps to gun dealers only.
They do sell them to gun dealers. At least here they do, then I get to purchase them at a price lower than I would otherwise have to pay.

In this case the gun is far more easily trackable if I do anything at all illegal with it as well. It has been fired and 'printed' so that if they find a bullet from my gun it can easily be tracked back to me.

If they do this with evidence guns used in crimes, they then use the proceeds from selling them to dealers to create a restitution fund for victims...

I don't think it makes a difference one way or the other, with the gun market.

I do think that if I were the wife or the sister of the person that was KILLED by the killer using that gun, that along with the criminal, the gun should be retired....

And knowing that a gun I bought, was a gun that was used to murder someone....would be UNACCEPTABLE to me....
