Whether we like it or not?

Being a superpower ain't all that, at least according to President Obama.

In a little-noticed remark at the close of the two-day nuclear security summit in Washington, D.C., this week, President Obama suggested the United States is somehow burdened by its military might -- a comment that drew a stern rebuke from his former rival in the presidential campaign.

Obama was responding to a question Tuesday about how the summit would play into peace-making efforts in the Middle East when he addressed the downsides of -- by virtue of America's world stature -- being obligated to intervene in international conflicts.

"It is a vital national security interest of the United States to reduce these conflicts because whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower, and when conflicts break out, one way or another we get pulled into them," Obama said. "And that ends up costing us significantly in terms of both blood and treasure."

The remark got little attention in mainstream coverage of the summit, but was picked up on several conservative blogs, which panned the president for suggesting Americans had grown weary of superpower status.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., slammed the leader of the free world Thursday, calling the remark a "direct contradiction to everything America believes in."

"That's one of the more incredible statements I've ever heard a president of the United States make in modern times," McCain, a Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war, told Fox News.

Why would any sane American not like being a world superpower? I literally shutter to think of the consequences of NOT being a world superpower! Do the bone head liberals really think we would be better off if we weren't such a strong nation? Do they somehow think we would be better off if we were #3 or #4 on the list, behind China, Russia, other totalitarian governments? Our security would be just as good, we would be just as safe? Do they take for granted the fact that we really don't have to worry much about another country jumping our shit, because we can annihilate them in a matter of minutes? If we didn't have that capability, given the anti-US sentiment worldwide, do you think we would not have a big giant target on our backs?

I think the current generation of nitwit socialists running our country, are so complacent and spoiled, so aloof and clueless, and so naive about what actually enables us to enjoy freedom and liberty year after year. The fact that none of us know or understand what it is like to live in a bunker, not knowing which army is busting down the door... is it the Germans? or maybe the Russians? Let's pray it's the Americans! They can't comprehend what it's like to live in fear of your life, to wonder if you will ever know freedom again. No, they have had everything handed to them their entire life, they have enjoyed a free society with liberty and justice, and no wars in the streets, no bombed out buildings, no smoldering ruins. They must assume these things just happen to certain people, and they could never happen in the USA! But the reason this kind of stuff doesn't happen in the USA, is because we are a world superpower, with the military capacity to wipe anyone else off the face of the map, and they know it.

If Obama would like it better for us to not be a world superpower, I have an idea for a liberal experiment, and it will help with the deficit! Let's completely cut the $1 trillion we will spend next year on the military and foreign aid! Then let's wait and see how long it takes before the entire world collapses in chaos around us! I give it less than 6 months. As the rest of the world is starving to death, let's see how long it takes for the desperate to attack the US because they have nothing else to lose, and everything to gain. I give that less than two years. Meanwhile, we will not answer the Europeans or any of our allies requests for assistance in defense or protection, they can fend for themselves. We'll see how long it takes to completely destroy everything we fought WWI and WWII for... I give that about a year.

Oh... YES WE CAN... Libtards! We can relegate the US to second-class status as a world power, and we can begin to see the results before the 2012 elections... is that what you actually WANT us to do?

I can name the Founding Fathers, as men who distrusted standing armies, as a group of people who would bemoan our superpower status.

But I agree with Obama's statement. Being a superpower is a pain in the neck, because we have gotten suckered into all sorts of military engagements, such as Korea, Vietnam, the Balkans, and Iraq.

Would you rather have China or Russia be the superpower?

It was done exactly the same way. Trying to turn a casual throwaway phrase into an anti-American, apologist roadmap.

Drink some more of the tea...

No, I went and looked, and it appears the pinheads pulled their usual diversion tactics and avoided the topic as much as possible. This doesn't change the fact that American presidents NEVER have "throwaway phrases" and the entire world listens to every word that comes out of their mouth. It is not surprising you apparently have as much disdain for America's exceptionalism as Obama, it confirms everything the right has claimed about your agenda and goals as Socialists.

Yep, I'll have another glass of tea, as I mark off one more day on my calendar, counting down to November, when America will send your pathetic Anti-American scumbucket asses heading for the hills. Tick-tock-tick...

For the Founders, it was merely a question of being powerful enough to defend ourselves and prevent being picked on. No one was sad in the 1930s that our military was ranked 16th in the world. Now we pretty much have to be a superpower to defend ourselves, yet we seem to do a lot more than merely defend...
