White Christians Grapple With Their Faith’s Racist Past — And Present

White Christian churches have not just been complacent or complicit in failing to address racism; rather, as the dominant cultural power in the U.S., they have been responsible for constructing and sustaining a project to protect white supremacy. Through the entire American story, white Christianity has served as the central source of moral legitimacy for a society explicitly built to value the lives of white people over Black people.

You are correct. The church has provided the teachings its parishioners want. They are a business that seeks money and power. They are racist in white neighborhoods and not so in black neighborhoods.

So the Reverend Wright, in the church Obama went to for years and even got married in, isn't racist...?

No, no, no, not God bless America — God damn America!

Jesus was a poor, black man who lived in a country and who lived in a culture that was controlled by rich white people. The Romans were Italian - which means they were Europeans, which means they were white - and the Romans ran everything in Jesus' country.

The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied.

In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.

Try again. Black churches in Black neighborhoods can be every bit and more as racist as any church anywhere else. Jeremiah Wright proves it.

Not that i know of. He was an ex-marine who went into preaching. After the Marines, he joined the navy. A real American hero . Sitting in a church does not mean you approve of everything said. Obama made that clear.

Abraham fucked his wife's slave. It's all in the Bible. I think in one part Jesus discusses how to treat slaves. If God didn't want Slavery, why did he put it in the Bible???

Running for president makes you say all kinds of things

None of that explains his overt racism, bigotry, antisemitism, and hate for America. And, don't play the veteran card. That doesn't justify any of his speech.
