Who gets credit for this?

Since when is "confidence" an indicator of anything tangible happening? Should Obama be given credit and praise because most of the country HOPES things will get better? That's kind of what you are saying here.

Confidence doesn't mean jack squat. New construction starts... that means something.

Usually, confidence has a basis in some other factor. That's why real economists (instead of the fake message board kind) consistently use it as an important indicator when it comes to judging how the economy is doing & what its prospects are.

All I read from the article posted, is numbers trending up from October have caused home-builders to have confidence. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't they have to sell the homes they're building for things to get better? Who are they going to sell them to, when another 50k people are without a job this month? (And in a market with over 500k foreclosed homes available?)

This is equivalent to a homeless man eating a spoiled bologna sandwich and expressing confidence that he's not going to starve to death. Does it really mean anything, his confidence?

US homebuilder confidence is at a 6 year high. How long has President Obama been in office?

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index released Monday increased to 46, up from 41 in October. That's the highest reading since May 2006, just before the housing bubble burst.

Readings below 50 suggest negative sentiment about the housing market.

Ah new starts are up to!
We now know dixtard didn't minor in economics!

So when I post "All I read from the article posted, is numbers trending up from October..." you think that reads that I haven't acknowledged new starts are up for the month? Well tell me, asshole, what exactly would I have to post to more adequately translate into your dope-induced brain, that this is what I had said?

Let's see if we have 10 straight months of new housing starts, and then we can crow about how much progress has been made. As it stands, a month or two of something doesn't indicate a thing, except that you are an idiot if you believe it does.

Haha just heard a respected economist say the number was excellent!

Who was this 'respected' economist?

The number is obviously an improvement, but overall it is still negative.

Saying it is excellent is nonsensical on his/her part. That would be like saying a QB who was 1-15 for 4 yards and 2 INTs last week, being excellent for going 15 of 34 for 195 yards and four INTs this week.

But still, you've gotta admit - it's pretty suspicious that this news came out after the election, isn't it?

You sound like Damocles way back when the unemployment numbers were dropping, but not as fast as previously.... He said that was not improvement, and that the trend was not likely to start adding jobs.

This is silly, numbers below 50 show a negative overall sentiment. Improvement? Yes. Good? No. Hope the trend continues? Yes.
