This all pretty much comes about because of DIE... We had H1B Visas to target the educated to fill jobs for which it was difficult to fill without reaching to a larger employee pool. They were designed to snatch up the best. Then someone suggested it "wasn't fair" and suddenly we were looking for cashiers too.

However, this is a legal path to enter the nation, and therefore a path that even Trump supported. "Come in the front door legally, legal immigration is good." those kind of things...

So, this is one of the ways to get here through the front door, and is not one of the things he ran against.

I think we do need some legal immigrants who want to work...for a specified time.

If American can't or won't fill those jobs at a viable cost, what are employers supposed to do?

And, as always, if foreigners want to apply for US citizenship, they can.

Random point, Pickleball is a relatively new American sport, which is not played much outside the USA. If you want to find someone particularly knowledgeable about Pickleball, you can only find them in the USA. If you want to find someone unbelievably cheap, who will work as slave labor, you can get an H1-B visa applicant.
