whoever becomes president this will be thier prize

. During the previous eight years, gross domestic product had grown an average of 4.09 percent annually. Over the past seven years, GDP growth has averaged 2.65 percent per year.
The national debt was $5.7 trillion in 2001. It is $9.2 trillion now. In the three years preceding 2001, the government had managed to amass a $431 billion surplus; during these last three years, we've had a $734 billion deficit.
The Clinton administration created an average of 1.76 million private-sector jobs each year during its eight years in office; the Bush administration has averaged 369,000 per year.
In 2001, there were 31.6 million Americans living in poverty, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Today, the bureau reports there are 36.5 million.
When Bush took office, there were 38 million Americans without health insurance; today there are an estimated 47 million, and the average annual family health insurance premium has increased from $6,230 to $12,106.
Median household income was $49,163 in 2001; it is $48,023 today. Meanwhile, gas prices have increased from $1.39 a gallon to $3.07, and the cost of college tuition has gone from $3,164 to $5,192. Consumer debt has nearly doubled, from $7.65 trillion to $12.8 trillion.
When we turn from domestic matters to international ones, we see an equally dismal landscape: Our trade deficit has soared from $380 billion to $759 billion, and the value of the dollar has declined precipitously. In 2001, a dollar would buy you 1.07 Euros; today, it will get you 0.68. We are more dependent on foreign oil. Our armed forces are stretched dangerously thin.

You really need a vacation Desh...!

Hook up with Lady T ...she is going to visit your 'Sin City'...real soon...have some fun get out more often...the world is a fun place...outside of political rhetoric!

Right.... and that economic prosperity was because of clowntoon.

The debt issue is certainly a legitimate beef against Bush. Never, not once, did I think a Rep President with a Rep Congress would spend like a drunken Kennedy.

Clinton did not create public sector jobs. The public sector did.

The poverty numbers.... yes, the numbers went up... but so did the population as a whole. A number conveniently left out of the above op-ed piece.

The op-ed piece also conveniently left out the fact that Clowntoon left office with the US in a recession.

That $431 billion surplus that was supposedly created.... ZERO of that went to pay down the nations debt. 1960 was the last year any of the idiots in DC paid down the debt in a fiscal year.

Yes, GDP growth has averaged a lot less. A recession will do that to you. Add to that the lack of a new revolution (such as the interenet/telecom/tech boom of the 1980's and 1990's.... which no politician is responsible for) and the numbers would not be that different.

Health insurance.... no question costs have skyrocketed.

No argument on the value of the dollar declining.... raising debt that much will do that. I know many on the left think Iraq was the biggest hurt Bush inflicted on the country, but in reality the debt is going to cause the greater pain.

I would like to see the numbers as to being more dependent on foreign oil as I thought the percentages were about the same.

It's pretty sad that the median income has gone DOWN over the past 8 years. Just pitiful. That means all the wage increases over the past 8 years have gone to the upper half.

I am not sure why any sane person would want the job of president right now. They will be no doubt be blamed with the problems they inherit by a largely stupid populace. This movement will be led by those that have their own adgenda which differs from the good of the country.

if that's what you believe then why would a coach ever take a job for a losing team or program? Because they want to be the one responsible for the turn around. If you are caught up in the partisan 'blame game' you probably wouldn't make a good candidate for President.

simple , money and power. Mostly power.

The higher your level of greed, the shorter your vision.

Much easier to manipulate that way.

This is exactly why I think Volker wants back in the game. He sees the challenge.... and WANTS to face it, then halt it, then beat it.

This is to compensate them for the moral crime of putting their fellow countrymen out of work and just generally treating them like shit.

Desh, why do you always assume that just because someone doesn't directly quote the articles you post that means you need to post it for us? I read it, I just also noticed it was an opinion piece, and commented on that.
