why are dems not against afghan war

Because thats where the September 11th attacks were planned from, thats where the government allowed AlQueda to openly operate and tacidly encouraged the actions of Osama Bin Laden.

They had to be cleaned out of Afganistan, and they cannot be allowed to return.

The war should have taken 6 months and should be well overwith by now.

I don't see how one is political gain & one is not. I opposed Iraq from the moment they said "Iraq," and it was not always popular to oppose that war.

Bin Laden orchestrated the attack on 9/11, and the Taliban was clearly giving him refuge in Afghanistan, and supporting him. On that level, it makes 100% more sense than Iraq; to try to compare the 2 is ludicrous.

In hindsight, it's very hard to support they way we have dealt with Afghanistan.

True, it makes it much easier to support Afganistan when we have so many allies in it with us.

it was not the country of Afghanistan but terrorist groups there who have members thoughout the middle east.
I'm against any middle east war, I just think it's hypocritical to be for one and against the other.

No, the differences are substantual. Osama and the Taliban had a symbiotic relationship, one allowed the other to exist. They were cozy. Osama and Saddam were declared enemies, they hated each other.

The Taliban officially endorsed the actions of AlQueda and vice versa. They were in many ways the same group, the Taliban was merely the political wing of AlQueda.

so we only go after Taliban and al quiada in Afghanistan and no other country. Ok I got it

AlQueda was supported by the government in Afganistan, I dont know of any other government where that was the case. Osama Bin Laden lived in Afganistan, freely. They refused to arrest him or hand him over.

What other country do you propose we attack the Taliban or Al Queda in?

what's up with that?
Anti war or anti war just for political gain?

No....but as a blue dog I'm not a typical democrat.

First I'm not anti-war. There's a time and place for everything and when a foreign nation presents a clear and present danger to our national security than I'm all for defending our selves. Aggresively if need be.

You can certainly make a convincing argument, based on the 9/11 attacks and the history of Al Quaeda and the Taliban based in Afghanistan that, unlike Iraq, they arize to the threshold of a clear and present danger to our national security.

The question really is, that after 7 years of gross incompetence by the present administration does Afghanistan present a clear and present danger NOW to our security. With Bin Ladin still alive and a resurgent Taliban, I'd say yes.

I'm anti war big fucking time.
And saying that we should have left both places after we toppled Sadam and bitch slapped the taliban. Now we are swapping spit and pissing billions a month down the drain.
