do they fear almost becoming american if they don't have the royals?

i don't get it...the brits on this site routinely insult america....yet...they (maybe not them individually, but as a nation as they so like to paint one or a few americans as the whole nation) are in love with their royals. for what reason?

i think it is a bit more than that damo....when was the last time you saw the flag walked down an aisle and the country went into near hysteria over it?

Just after 9/11. We all stand for it in crowds, etc. It's pretty much the same thing, only their symbol walks and talks and burning one would be illegal.

They have become a standard steeped in traditions of old in modern times. The Royal's are supposed to represent a figure head of nobleness. Stoic and tireless seeking to encourage others towards higher standards and a sense of duty; service; and love of country.

There are many reasons why the royal family still remains.

Chief amongst them is that nobody really wants an elected President. We've already got enough politicians cluttering the place up without adding to their greasy numbers.

There are some, mainly of the more elderly persuasion, who do actually look up to the royal family but for most people they just like the soap-opera stories of intrigue and betrayal in the press, the spectacle and the pageantry, the day off work for a royal wedding or a nice funeral, that sort of thing.

I suspect (perhaps arrogantly) that a large number of British people have similar views to my own - i neither love nor admire the royal family (with the caveat that almost everybody will tell you what a wonderful job the Queen has done) but don't feel strongly enough to replace them with something worse, such as President David Camerons or the winner of a "Britain's next Top Monarch" competition being crowned by Simon fecking Cowells.

That said an even larger number of British people are, quite simply, simpering idiots. So we aren't that dissimilar as nations after all.

they are dirt poor and sinking to a third world status, the only time they see dress clothes and straight teeth is a royal wedding.

Holy shit Toppy, you are so predictable. By the way, MolyCorp is now touching $80 so I will go out and get some new false teeth.

LOL, the toothless baiting works again

You obviously have time on your hands, why don't you try this pastime?

She is the Constitutional head of state in 16 countries and the head of the 54 Commonwealth nations as well.

It is good to know that should we ever be picked on, by one of the rougher nations in the playground, we have the security of knowing that Tuvalu and Belize have got our back.

Well, damn. And I thought we were powerful!
