A good question! We must assume that if Epps was some sort of govt. agent, the FBI didn't know until June 29. Then they found out, and after his picture had been up for some months, they removed it.

Maybe he belonged to a different agency?

Because it didn't matter until it mattered. That is, there was no reason to remove it so long as no one was paying attention to it. The second it became an obvious Oh SHIT! issue, it disappeared. The real questions here are:

What was Epps' role other than obviously an instigator?
Who was Epps working for?
Will the supposedly thorough Jan 6 House committee even bother to look any of this up?
Why hasn't Epps been arrested? Should be relatively easy to get that done.

Others have been arrested on various charges that didn't enter the Capitol building, so why not Epps? Epps could easily be charged with conspiracy at a minimum...
