The Houthis are still shooting missiles at Israel, so trump apparently did not want that to stop. The Houthis are gaining ground in Yemen, so that is not what he wanted. He claimed he wanted the Houthis to stop firing on ships, but they still are, so that was not it either. The new claim is that he did not want them firing on American flagged ships.
Using an American flag comes with higher taxes, so is only done for ships that need greater access to American ports. There is almost no reason for ships going to American ports to go through the Suez Canal. So this was never really an issue.
But yes, the Houthis have not killed any more unicorns, so I guess trump can claim he is justified.
