It's also largely irrelevant. Prosecutors pick and choose the cases they bring before the court. If they think they can't win a case they usually drop it instead. They will also reduce charges and offer insanely low plea deals in cases where they have gone ahead and find themselves losing. It's like they are playing poker but get to look at everybody else's hand...

No - it makes sense. Prosecutors should not spend taxpayer dollars on a case unless they know they are very likely to win.
Some prosecutors try people in cases they are likely to lose just to harass the accused. That is wrong.
To stay in office so their opponents don't claim they are "weak on crime."
