The answer is obvious, but I ask regardless because I'd like to know how the Republicans here justify their anti-worker attitude to themselves.
While not a Republican, I'll bite...
Because for the most part they're useless. I had the opportunity to join one at one place I worked. The local president and I came to an understanding. I wouldn't start shit she, then he couldn't handle or refute at meetings if they stopped bugging me to joining and left me alone. It was great for both parties. I didn't pay the $40 a payday (every two weeks) and they didn't have to put up with me making their members question what they were doing.
They had a get together with the national reps once, hot dogs, hamburgers, that sort of thing. One of the national reps sat down by me and a co-worker. The co-worker was practically laughing as this national guy asked me if I was a member. It took all of maybe two minutes to send him running away from me.
I had a serious rep as somebody neither management or the union wanted to screw with. So why the fuck did I need a union?
Why do you wish to deck the stack entirely in the employer's favor?
The only people that have that situation are idiots that can't stand on their own two feet and deal with things themselves.
Why do you think paid maternity leave is evil?
It isn't evil, but it's not something that should be mandatory either. Your employer didn't fuck you and get you pregnant. Why should your employer have to pay you for your personal decisions?
Why are you proud of the fact that American workers have almost no rights when compared to workers of other developed nations?
American workers have plenty of rights. The problem is that the American justice system is grossly expensive mostly due to the lawyer's union (aka "Bar") and the unnecessarily complex legal system that exists here.
As I pointed out to the union president where I was employed, there were two scenarios where I could be in trouble with the company:
1. I screwed up and was guilty of what they claimed. I'd have to eat that.
2. They were falsely or mistakenly accusing me of something. I'm better off getting some sharks and piranha in three-piece suits and tearing them apart than relying on the union.
There was no disagreement.
Then there was the union local president who spent about $45,000 on personal shit and got caught. The union didn't do squat to her because she bought a lifetime membership to the union with some of it. Caused a lot of people to quit the union...
More than one co-worker when in difficulty sought me out for advice too. I remember one who's wife was philandering with a cop. She had the guy arrested for domestic violence and then filed for divorce. He was totally distraught. She thought she'd get their house, the kids, the car, etc. and he'd be screwed. He was reduced to living in a rented trailer.
I helped with that. I advised he declare bankruptcy immediately to include all loans, credit cards, and whatever. Then he should rent the most expensive apartment he could afford.
He did. Within 60 days she had the cars repossessed, the house was in foreclosure and she was tossed out, and all the bill collectors were hounding her, not him.
The way the state worked things they took into account his living expenses when considering child support and that got reduced because of the cost of that apartment. On top of that her idiot liar didn't hit his 401K, only the pension, and that got reduced because I showed him how to do that too...
In my own case, the wife's ex wasn't paying child support so I had her take him to court. After he lost the first hearing he told me "You can't get blood out of a stone!" I looked at him with a sneer and replied, "Maybe I can't but I can sure as hell pound it into sand." He got the message after his amount was raised, everything he owned got liened, he was hit for thousands in lawyer fees, and I told him with an evil grin, "Want to keep going?" Never missed a payment after that...
So, what fucking use do I have for a useless turd of a union?
