Mike Gravel states the truth: our soldiers in Vietnam died in vain, in a useless war.

Then we go on to ask the question to Obama, who completely dodges the question, goes off into a 2 minute self-congratulatory speech in which he says "well, I didn't vote for it, so you can vote for me!" *glares at Hillary*, or something simialar, and then goes on to say "No, whenever people serve their country, they don't die in vain". Does this statement make any sense?

The question is then asked of Edwards, who repeats the process, except that he replaces "country", with "president".

hmmm...

People have ways of rejecting the truth, even if in their own mind they acknowledge it. In politics, unfortunately, telling the truth is not sufficient for winning office.

I have long been convinced that most Democrats, not only with their politicians, but their followers, don't care nearly as much about ending the war as they say. It is merely a convenient rallying cry with which to acquire much desired power.

And strange enough, I believe this attempt to play to the center on foreign policy has hurt them at winning elections and getting things done more than it has ever helped them.

I am not sure this is done on purpose, but it is clearly being done. Democrats regularly reelect legislators who have been and are for all purposes pro-war due to their lack of focus on ending it, and yet somehow they send them to office with the expectation that they will end the war.

Every opportunity the Democrats had to band together to make ending the war a serious and central issue, they've floundered. They nominate candidates for all offices who do not care to really change their policies on the war, and then when they are offered candidates--from a variety of parties or lackthereof--who will sincerely do something to stop the war they reject them as unrealistic options.

I guess that is why I am a Republican... At least that is what my voter registration card says :D

but anyway, you need to think a bit more about individuals , not party. The people that tend to vote Dem are a much less cohesive bunch than the republicans.
