Why the Southern Strategy has destroyed the Republican party.

The Republican party went from being a pro-economic growth, lift all boats, party of pragmatist and governmental technocrats to embracing Nixon's southern strategy. The end result is that radical southern extremism based on a pro business exploitation of labor, starve communities of public investment and deny working class people and minorities their rights has completely co-opted the Republican party.

For those that are too young to remember. This is what the Republican party used to stand for. These are the true values of the Republican party that have been abandoned by southern radical political reactionaries.

and all the GOP can do to counter that argument is to point out that, a half a century ago, the democratic party was the party of southern racism, as if by repeating that mantra over and over again, they will make America in general, and blacks in particular, forget the fact that they have deliberately taken on that mantle themselves.

This is what happens when a party relies on cheating in elections to win them.

they end up doing nothing to expand the party base.

they end up relying on the cheating to cull more votes.

cheating gets discovered and ended.

then they have to find new ways to cheat.

It takes them off a path of trying to figure out what the changing American people are seeking in a party.

they just retain the old base and cheat.

Old bases die off.
