Well, there's the narcissism I spoke of. I entirely expect to parish with society. The paradox of postmodernity is that it is defined by both narcissism and nihilism.
You and I both know society will come crashing down upon itself sooner or later in this postmodern state of narcissism. The question is, does either of us really care? Not sure if I do...
I have a different perspective. While the narcistic folks will always be with us the current economic climate has a silver lining. I've noticed polls show a slow but continuous growth towards ObamaCare approval. My reasoning is even the most narcistic among us are becoming aware of more and more people losing their job and medical coverage. While they certainly don't want to pay for others, via the government, being narcissists (self-involved, vain) they become concerned should they be unemployed and without medical insurance. In other words they don't give a damn about others needing help but should they require help they want it available and the more stories that come out regarding unemployment and a lack of medical insurance they have little choice but to "get with the program".
Should Obama win a majority or enough supporters to make adjustments to ObamaCare the discussion of whether governemnt should be involved will be ended. By '16 the people will have experienced the benefits and there will be no turning back just as every other country with government medical never reverted to a "pay or suffer" system. That's why the Repubs continue to pass these pointless resolutions in the House. They know the battle is NOW. Once the citizens realize the benefits, it's game over.
