There is some very unfortunate and certainly sobering news coming from Reno today, as Nevada receiver Brandon Wimberly has been shot in the abdomen and is currently listed in serious condition.
According to a police report via the Reno Gazette Journal, Wimberly was shot once during a skirmish that involved Wimberly, several of his teammates and a group of unidentified people at around 2:30 this morning. The shooting happened near the Reno Aces ballpark.
From the article:
“Police said the initial investigation shows that a group of Wolf Pack football players got into a fight with another group and the other group got into a silver-colored car. Police said Wimberly, the 2009 Western Athletic Conference freshman of the year, approached the car and someone inside shot him.”
“The injuries are very serious.” Reno Police Lt. Keith Brown said. “They’re not life threatening, but they’re probably life changing.”
