There are several things wrong about the wind wall story.
That part of the border (Calexico) already had a wall. It was bigger than the wall it was being replaced by. So trump is so eager to get his name on something, he had a bigger wall pulled down and replaced by a littler wall.
The people on site say they asked to have construction halted due to high winds, and were told that only the President could order a halt in construction. If a construction is dangerous, people on the ground should be allowed to halt construction. Luckily, it fell on the Mexican side, because if it fell on the American side, construction workers could have died. trump tries to micromanage things he really should not.
A CBP spokesperson says there was no damage. Well, obviously, the wall was damaged, so he is wrong there. But also Mexican trees were damaged. At least three of them were killed. Anyone who has ever done any property development knows that killing someone else's trees is a nightmare. They take forever to replace, unless you want to pay a lot of money. So you kill a 40 year old tree, you can easily be spending tens of thousands to replace it, even though the owner paid almost nothing but time to grow them. It cannot be better that this is an international incident started by a president who can best be described as offensive.
The Mexican landowners can sue the US Government in our independent courts, and would probably win. Fighting them would cost the US taxpayers millions more. The Mexican Government will gladly pay for the suit, knowing they would get paid back if they won, and out of spite even if they lose.
