By celebrating World Philosophy Day each year, on the third Thursday of November, UNESCO underlines the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.

Philosophy is an inspiring discipline as well as an everyday practice that can transform societies. By enabling to discover the diversity of the intellectual currents in the world, philosophy stimulates intercultural dialogue. By awakening minds to the exercise of thinking and the reasoned confrontation of opinions, philosophy helps to build a more tolerant, more respectful society. It thus helps to understand and respond to major contemporary challenges by creating the intellectual conditions for change.

Bertrand Russell: The Everyday Benefit of Philosophy Is That It Helps You Live with U

On the strength of a few quotations and the popular lecture Why I am Not a Christian, philosopher Bertrand Russell has been characterized as a so-called “positive atheist,” a phrase that implies a high degree of certainty. While it is true that Russell saw “no reason to believe any of the dogmas of traditional theology” — he saw them, in fact, as positively harmful — it would be misleading to suggest that he rejected all forms of metaphysics, mysticism, and imaginative, even poetic, speculation.

Thank you philosophy and philosophical thinkers.

My life has been changed for the better in measurable ways by Plato, Confucius, Marcus Aurelius, Krishna Dvaipayana, Laozi, Dostoyevsky, Einstein, Jefferson, Solzhenitsyn, Siddhartha Gautama.

Philosophy is not a holiday or date. You and Cypress (the Sock) both deny and discard philosophy.
