What is important to note here is that these kids had a court hearing scheduled where the gov't could have made the case that they were sending kids home to family and shown the gov't wanted them back and if that held up in court, the deportation would have been approved and happened. When lawyers noticed the case was suddenly pulled from the court docket, lawyers for the children sounded the alarm as they noticed kids were being picked up and it appeared would be shipped out without a hearing or the gov't having to establish that anything they were saying was accurate or true.
If indeed parents, or even extended family of these kids would take them and the gov't in Guatemala would allow it, this would easily happen with broad support.
The legal proceedings were sparked early on Sunday when immigrant advocacy groups asked for an emergency injunction, claiming around 600 children could be put on planes in Texas and deported....
