There are only tents and trailers - no brick-or-mortar buildings. It was constructed on land belonging to Miami-Dade County and seized by state officials over local leaders' objections.

It sits next to an 11,000 foot airstrip. DeSantis said the runway there can be used to quickly fly undocumented immigrants to third countries if deportation is deemed appropriate.

Well, I tried to track down where that $450 million annual cost number came from and had no real luck on it. FEMA is supposed to be the agency paying the tab.

The only name I can put to that $450 million figure is Alex Howard, a former Biden administration DHS spokesman living in Florida.

"You don't solve immigration by disappearing people into tents guarded by gators," he told NPR over email. "You solve it with lawful processing (like humanitarian parole, [Temporary Protected Status], humane infrastructure, and actual policy — not by staging a $450 million stunt in the middle of hurricane season."

So, without better sourcing, I'd say the $450 million figure is a SWAGPOOYA being made by a Trump hating ex-Biden official who is full of shit.

My guess is per prisoner it will be between $15,000 and $20,000 per year if they are held for a year. I'd say $1500 to $3000 per month. Given that this site is likely to have a high turnover because of deportations, that the later numbers are more in line with the cost per inmate.
