Canceled
They never got round to the subject when this was a top comedy series in the 80/90s. The BBC wouldn't allow such heresy now so the original winters have gone to YouTube instead.

The BBC, quite rightly, realised that the "new series", produced 25 years after the original had finished and completely devoid of the original cast members, might not be such a good idea.

The writers then went, not to Youtube, but to the satellite channel UKGold (there's a clue to that in the little logo in the top left hand corner of the video you linked to). Public reception to the new series would seem to more than justify the BBC's decision to pass on the series.

So, alleging the BBC declined to air the new series on grounds of political correctness, rather than choosing not to broadcast something that was, critically regarded as "fucking awful", is slightly wide of the mark, no?

Still has the same writers though and I believe that they put it on YouTube at the same time as UK Gold, which I never watch anyway. As for the original actors, could it be because the original actors are brown bread or too old perhaps? I might also point out that the West End version had three sellout runs so they must have done something right! I also find it somewhat strange that the BBC passed on the chance to make a new series, when they put on total dross like Mrs. Brown's Boys.

I am sure some of that was due to the cast being totally new and unfamiliar . It's a bit like trying to remake Monty Python with new comedians but the original writers. The BBC apparently said that they wanted a pilot of the revival and the writers told them there were 38 episodes and the West End stage show if they could be bothered to watch.

I am surprised that you are even aware of its existence, did they ever show it over there?
