yet another GOP leader goes to prison

Once headed the GOP in North Carolina.
Now going to prison for corruption.

He last led the GOP in 1999 and is in trouble for corruption in his private law practice.

It also looks like there is something funny in the water in North Carolina.

""Though Currin hasn't had a leading role in politics since he was ousted as Republican Party chairman in 1999, his actions could contribute to a sense of mistrust of government. Voters have seen Meg Scott Phipps, a Democrat who was the state's agriculture secretary, former Democratic House Speaker Jim Black and state Rep. Michael Decker sentenced for illegal activities.""

Corruption is corruption regardless of who commits it.

yeah and the Rs seem to have a big corner of the market covered,

Not all of it, though! Did you see the headlines today, 11 officials in NJ (Lady T!!!) have been arrested on corruption-related charges. Two at least are Democratic State reps. A couple are mayors, no party affiliations named, etc. etc.

Nah, the water's fine, it's just something messed up in the government here. Too many special interests having their say. Not enough people in office can say no to putting these folks on the dole.

I have to say, that when you are in government and getting paid what is a fortune to me (i.e. $130,000 for US House which is a dream job, because you are in a co-equal place to the Senate but work FAR less and no one knows who you are), how hard is it to not take bribes, kickbacks, turn a blind eye to graft and other's corruption and violate ethics rules?
