Iran Seeks Condemnation of Israeli Nukes

UNITED NATIONS -- Iran demanded Tuesday that the U.N. Security Council condemn what it said was Israel's clandestine development of nuclear weapons and "compel" it to place all its nuclear facilities under U.N. inspection.

If Israel refuses to comply, Iran said the council must take "resolute action" under Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter which authorizes a range of measures from diplomatic and economic sanctions to military action.

Just because they are an axis of evil islamofascist power does not invalidate their point on Israel possessing nukes....And the UN's responsibility in the matter.

In a strange twisted way.... I actually see your point! But ..when it comes down to it.... who would you rather see with a nuke in their hands?

Irelevant , this is not a matter of whom would I rather see have a bomb. Israel has the bomb and won't play by the same rules the rest of the world does. And the rest of the world plays along.

But you can't demand one nation follow the rule of international law, but not another. The whole system of international law breaks down, otherwise.

Israel should be sanctioned for their nukes.... not likely, but they should...

actually, I just remembered that Israel is not a signatory to NPT, whereas I think Iran is. Which techincally means Israel isn't violating NPT. But, typically, nations that don't sign up for NPT face an international reaction of some sort.

My point exactly. Klaatu has trouble getting past his programming to see the truth of this issue of Israel having the bomb.

International law breaks down because of the fact that some nations will always circumvent it for other nations they support... There is no Executive branch of the UN so any enforcement is totally on the honor system. When some finally do work to "enforce" something by putting on that blue helmet they simply turn into pimps and rapists to add to the problem rather than fix it. Pretending that "International Law" works perfectly except Klaatu doesn't 'understand' it is simply hilarious.

International law, is, was, and always has been a big fat joke.

International law is only as strong as the countries entering into the agreement.
Bush sure has flaunted international law big time. We are not at all blameless in the weakness of international law.
We are supposed to try and improve things, not just be a surrender monkey on the issue.

I never said we were blameless, I said that it was pointless. So long as some nations are willing to go that extra distance...

That's about the size of it, I'd say. At the very least, they should openly admit they have such weapons and have done with the silly charade.

Ironically, it appears that it's the U.S. government that most wants the game to go on. Having one's cake and eating it too sounds all well and good, but continually chewing it and then spitting it out again is just extremely poor manners, among other things.

Not Ironic at all Ornot, but to be expected based on the extreme amount of influence Israel has in our government.

I disagree. Frankly, I'm amazed that 60 years after the bomb was invented, only a handfull of countries possess it.

International law, imperfect as it is, has been crucial to mitigating the spread of nukes. International law, backed up by diplomacy, cajoling, and/or sanctions, has forced or persuaded countries like South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Libya, and Iraq to give up pursuit of nukes, or at a minimum, prevented them from developing nukes.

It ain't perfect. But, its worked better than the Darwinian model of unfettered militarism and every country going their own way on nukes.

the big difference is that isreal has apparently had these weapons for a while and hasn't admitted it. they haven't threatenend to wipe anyone off the face of the earth as iran has...that is a major difference. it indictes that israel hasn't planned on using them as an offensive weapon, or as a threat to anoynoe till know where thye must feel threatened enough to reveal they have them..........or they'r just fakin it to make their enemies think twice!!

The loud bragging blustery ones you can predict, the quiet ones are another matter though. Watch out for them.

Israel has had nukes for 20 some years. And the un has passed many resolutions against Israel about its suspisions. And since 90% of the un wants to destory Israel I can't blame them for not cooperating.

Their nukes are for retaliation purposes. If someone nukes them they will nuke that country multiple times. That's what the submarine fleet is for.

The un is a big beauacracy that sucks money out of the member nations and gives back nothing in return except a forum for dictators to spout their hatred of America and Israel.
