There is little on this planet as egocentric and oblvious to the outside world as a parent with young children. Stop the world, we have kids! They can be pretty obtuse about how they inconvienance people. The ones that really get me are the ones that bring baby's to public or formal events like funerals or weddings only to have them disrupted by their squalering kid.

And they don't seem too fond of babies...

They usually aren't the ones trying to calm a toddler who is either, frightened, tired or bored on an airplane. I don't like to hear babies cry, but other than drugging them, sometimes there is not much you can do. I don't expect families to give up traveling just because I may be inconvenienced.

Well, flights are kind of a different story. People have to fly, and they usually have to take their kids w/ them.

Movies, however...

I love babies. At least I loved mine. I also had benadryl handy when needed. At least once paragoric was off the market.

I am sorry, but I think it is horrible to drug your child just to keep them quiet. If pressure is the problem, a bottle or pacifier is a better alternative, gum for older children. I only gave my child drugs one time, but it was perceived by my pediatrician. I just don't give children anything they don't require.

My comment was made tongue in cheek. I did not drug my kids for convenience. I also did not use the tv as a babysitter.

I once flew with my chlidren who were 3 and 1 at the time, we got bumped to First Class. You should have seen the evil looks we got as we walked to our seats. The only person nice to us was Georgia Senator Max Cleland who, although he had no legs, was very helpfull and supportive of effort to get home with our kids.
