This is why I voted for Trump

It was a good speech until Trump started acting like a divisive Reality TV show host instead of President of the United States. Sad.

That right there says it all. That is what is taking down his Presidency. On his own. If only he would stop that shit.

Within two years, you have to be working 30 hours a week. Many jobs have people working 60 hours one week, and then 20 hours the next. You would lose your benefits with such a job, because you failed to work 30 hours that week.

Not anymore. Obama took care of that.

Unless you know how to game the system. In Mass, there are families that have been on it and all the other public assistance programs for generations. Obama gutted Clintons welfare reform in 2012.

If you know how to game the system, you are going to be doing well enough you will not be interested in Welfare. Do you think high frequency stock traders are applying for Welfare? It is people who can barely navigate the system who are applying for Welfare.

What happens is they go back and forth between working and not working, which is called cycling. They are not gaming the system, but are being played by the system.

"The TANF grant has a maximum benefit of two consecutive years and a five-year lifetime limit and requires that all recipients of welfare aid must find work within two years of receiving aid"

There are many, many exceptions to that. One can collect TANF much longer than 60 months. People on it know the rules better than the government.

Agreed. Trump can pass the blame all he wants, but he's his own worst enemy. I think he's too out of touch by choice, not just ignorance.

That's why I found Vice President Pence's initial COVID team briefings refreshing: he was both very Presidential and displayed excellent leadership qualities. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat if it was Pence vs. Biden....or any other Democrat.

You should visit some cities and rural areas Walt. It is just another source of income for them. Like food stamps.

I've seen fat mothers with their many children with their phones and tablets at check outs paying junk food with their food stamps and I've seen them driving away in nice cars.

It's a problem all over.

The 30 hours a week is pretty hard and fast. You need to be working 30 hours a week, and paying taxes on that work. There are people who work in tipping jobs(like waitresses), but do not get enough in tips to make minimum wage. They might have to pay more in taxes than they make in salary to keep their government benefits.

Minimum wage is $7.25. Minimum wage without tips is $2.13. So if you have a tipped job, but do not get tips, you make $2.13 an hour, but pay taxes on $7.25 an hour.

It's illegal, but some will trade their SNAP cards for hard cash at half the value. One guess what they want to spend it upon.

OTOH, I have a disabled BIL (who is now in a state facility where all his state benefits go) but when he was on the streets my wife would take care of him using his SNAP card and her (our) own money. Sometimes she'd pay herself back using the SNAP card for us which included everything from steak to vanilla cookies. We're middle class and she has a nice middle class car.

I don't know about other states, but in Texas, a person can barely get by on welfare benefits which is why she was always supplementing him with our own money. Now that he's in a state facility, his basic needs are cared for but she still buys him things such as batteries for his radio, cigarettes and snacks out of her own pocket.

You bet, APL! I hope you've had a nice Fourth so far. Mine has been nice and mellow. I'm staying home tonight. I do NOT like crowds.

No. Obama got rid of the work requirement in 2012. In addition, it depends on what you claim and how you claim it. There are plenty of lawyers out there that coach dependents on how to cheat the system "legally". Look it up. That 60 months cap goes to a lifetime quickly.

I used to give financial advise for a charity in Philadelphia. I reassure you that no one who is successfully gaming the system is homeless or living in the slums. trump games the system, homeless people are gamed by the system.

No, he really did not.
