Jessie Waters tells it like it is!

LOL I saw the bit on the Daily Show. Pretty funny.

Irony is often funny to me. The fact it upsets the MAGAts proves it to be true.

It's because improving mental healthcare = Socialism And we can't have that along with other nice things.
That's the MAGAt opinion, but I'm not seeing those on the Left pushing hard for it. Notice that banning guns seems to have a higher priority.

Walz mentioned banning "assault weapons" on The Daily Show, but not better mental healthcare.

In his favor he mentioned that it's better to pay for school buses and school meals than prison buses and prison meals. I agree with him 100% on that issue.

Improving mental healthcare is part of improving healthcare overall. Dems talk about that in droves. You'll find that blue states have far more programs and experiences for the mentally handicapped.

Agreed, but it's not covered like overall healthcare. Disagreed about "droves". IMO, lip service only. No doubt blue states have better health and physical care than red states, but when they talk about new legislation it's about banning guns, not better mental health care and the legislation to back it up.

The problem is the worst-behaved mental cases shrug off treatment. You can't make them commit to treatment but you can take a tool out of their hands they shouldn't have for their safety and others.

Agreed. It's not illegal to be mentally ill. Hence the importance of legislation to back up better mental health care. The trick, of course, is to navigate depriving someone of their rights by forcing them to get mental health care.

Another problem is solving the why they shrug off treatment. If someone shrugged off cancer treatment, shouldn't their reason be logical? "It costs too much" or "I'm terminal and it isn't worth it" as opposed to "I read on Facebook that peach pits are better and cheaper" or "Doctors are just trying to take my money"?

A more important issue seems to be that, depending upon the mental illness, some don't like the drugs they are given for their condition. More research may help that. In the days before penicillin and other treatments, the amputation of limbs was necessary to prevent gangrene. Perhaps more research into mental health medications would have a similar, less traumatic cure.

Spanking kids and locking them in their rooms after school is a surefire way to keep them out of trouble, but it's not a good method. Same goes for the easy route of banning adult human beings from having, doing or thinking certain things.

It's often a case of pride or stubbornness that leads to a lack of treatment. Even if their medical bills were covered and it was easy to get treatment many would still refuse.
