This is Trump deciding he should determine the policies of foreign countries too. If a country retaliates against his tariffs, he threatens to double them. He is still an uneducated, childish goon, whose biggest move is bullying. I will, raise tariffs against you and you are not allowed to respond in a way I do not approve. Trump is a bad, bad joke.

Xi and China have been planning for this.

Trump doesn’t have the leverage he thinks he does.

“Xi is hoping to build on an anti-Trump bounce and inspire businesses to back Beijing as some signs emerged that China’s economy was doing a little better than expected in early 2025. Industrial production went up by 5.9 per cent in January and February. Credit growth, which measures the amount of loans banks give out, also appears to be picking up, suggesting that businesses might be growing in China.”

“Chinese leader Xi Jinping urged foreign business executives to defend trade and said globalization was unstoppable, drawing an implicit contrast between Beijing’s policies and President Trump’s tariffs.”

How so? China can respond however they wish to respond.
If a country retaliates against his tariffs, he threatens to double them.
Precisely. Trump is in the stronger position in this scenario. Since China is dependent upon our food, China will eventually cave.
He is still an uneducated, childish goon, whose biggest move is bullying.
It's called using leverage to the USA's benefit.
I will,raise tariffs against you
WRONG. It's more like "I'm sick of you taking advantage of the USA, so now tariffs are going to increase to the point that the USA is not being taken advantage of anymore".
and you are not allowed to respond in a way I do not approve.
WRONG. They can respond however they wish to respond, but they are not free from any and all future responses to their response (or from any and all consequences of said response).
Trump is a bad, bad joke.
Nah... that's YOU, Nordy. :)

I wouldn't mind 100% tariff on all things from China, with a 10 year minimum time span.

Just put the money gathered into a National Debt Paydown lock box.

Never make a threat that the other party cannot comply with. It forces you to either carry through with the threat, or chicken out on the threat.

So trump made this threat at 11:14 AM DC time, which is 11:14 PM Beijing time, so 46 minutes before tomorrow. The Chinese leadership is not going to be woken up over a Tweet, so they will not even see this until the morning. They would have to make a decision fully in one business day, when it usually takes them a week to do anything.

So their obvious reaction is to ignore trump, which is exactly what they did.

A country spends 50 years getting rid of its ability to produce, then it basically refuses to import what it needs....how the fuck do you figure this ends?
