How does any of Trump’s deliberately crashing the economy makes sense?

“Trump disrupts global economic order even though the US is dominant”

“WASHINGTON (AP) — By declaring a trade war on the rest of the world, President Donald Trump has panicked global financial markets, raised the risk of a recession and broken the political and economic alliances that made much of the world stable for business after World War II.”

“Economists are puzzled to see Trump trying to overhaul the existing economic order and doing it so soon after inheriting the strongest economy in the world. Many of the trading partners he accuses of ripping off U.S. businesses and workers were already floundering.”

“There is a deep irony in Trump claiming unfair treatment of the American economy at a time when it was growing robustly while every other major economy had stalled or was losing growth momentum”

The U.S. enjoys the largest and strongest economy in the world, four percent unemployment, and highest wages anywhere, in what world does jeopardizing all of this make any sense? How does this make America great again?

And please, don’t tell us Trump/Navarro’s voodoo trade chart explains it all (https://fortune.com/2025/04/07/trum...f-its-variables-conservative-think-tank-says/)

This is truly the strangest thing I've seen in my lifetime.

One man driving us headlong into a global Recession, based on lies & exaggerations.

It's one of the biggest "told ya so's" of all time. MAGA's will follow anything he does, but I'd guess that most moderates & independents regret their vote for Trump now.

Nonsense, our great president, President Trump, is addressing the inequality of our trade with other countries.

If you didn’t have TDS, you would applaud this effort to level the trade playing field.

Trump doesn't understand trade deficits. I literally can't find one reputable economist who agrees with him.

"TDS" is getting old. Most non-MAGA's realize that everything the left said about Trump is true.

No, the American people who elected him understand that what the left said about him is false.

Yes, TDS is getting old, stop with your TDS.

There is a huge level of buyer's remorse out there. Independents & moderates are watching their 401K's disappear, and regret their vote for this lunatic.

Congress needs to step in and do something before the economy is beyond saving.

It's not being crashed trump is leveling the economic landscape. People don't like change. They do weep and moan then wake no one day and say, oh shit we need to US consumer to buy our shit. We better start paying ball. Until they wake up things will look bad but they will wake up.

Do you believe that correcting long term trade imbalances come without some short term discomfort?

Press Trump ran on correcting these long term trade imbalances.

Put on your big boy boots and stop whining.

He is doing exactly what he was elected to do.

Think about that, we have the greatest economy in the world, 4% unemployment, higher wages than anywhere, and we are getting ripped off by others?

LOL

He told us the market would crash if HARRIS won, and that we'd see a fix on inflation & a boom on Day 1.

He never campaigned on "discomfort." You're just spinning.

Lot of hypothetical rhetoric ^ but nothing beyond generalizations. The Markets are shrinking at record levels, and the real effects of that and the tariff tax have even hit Main Street yet, and you’re telling us it’s nothing? And by the way, the US consumer is the greatest consumer in the world, we save less and spend more than any other peoples.

As I said, think about that, we have the greatest economy in the world, 4% unemployment, higher wages than anywhere, and we are getting ripped off by others?

How does that make sense? We have a trade imbalance with Canada. Can you understand a country with 40 million people does not buy as much as a country of 360 million. How is Trump's stupidity going to balance that? How is yours?
China is a manufacturing power because our owners moved there for cheap unprotected labor and no environmental regulations. They moved everything there to get quick high profits. They do not care about American workers. Neither does Trump.
You are silly enough to think Trump and his merry band of billionaires care about you.

These so called “long term imbalances,” which by the way are not anywhere close to Navarro’s bogus chart, have again not prevented us from having the greatest economy in the world, 4% unemployment, and higher wages than anywhere. And by the way, the US is the second greatest exporter in the world, well, until Trump arrived

Yes we are the greatest consumers so other countries better get their heads out of their asses if they want to sell their shit here. It's rather simple. They will come around. They always do and you cockroaches wont report it.

Lots of people, who were in the know, made big money.

Leftists don't understand the difference between the stock market and the economy.

BTW, the stock market is up today. ;)

And down the rest of the week

Actually a humorous thought coming from a Trumpkin when they celebrated everytime the Market when up and Trump boasted it was all due to him
