BP, I told you so

I stated some time ago that the warm waters in the Gulf would cause the majority of the oil spill to either evaporate or be consumed by microbes. This has now come to pass, so I feel entitled to say I told you so. We have had several serious oil spills over the years, on this side of the pond, they have all been shown to have had a negligible effect on the environment despite all the apocalyptic warnings from all the usual suspects.

....various components of crude oil, such as benzene, toluene, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, present risks and are all known carcinogens. Other components of oil—mercury and lead—are also toxic and there are concerns that the dispersants BP is using in unprecedented amounts to break-up the spill are also toxic. Now, CNN is reporting that in excess of 1.8 million gallons of dispersant chemicals have been dumped into the Gulf of Mexico in attempts to separate the oil moving in from the Deepwater Horizon’s broken well.

Your doom laden warnings have not come to pass, so you will have to find another cause célèbre to bang on about. Are you capable of admitting that you were wrong?

The British Polluters are trying to pull out of their commitments already.

"Little of the oil remains on the water, but that doesn't mean it has all vanished. Scientists are worried that much of it has been trapped below the surface after more than 770,000 gallons of chemical dispersant were used to break up the oil a mile deep. They have found evidence of massive clouds of oil suspended in the water."

Translation, some scientists are pissed off that their apocalyptic warnings have not come to pass. They said the exact same thing about the Saddam Hussein's deliberate oil spill into the Persian Gulf. That resulted in over 11 million barrels ending up in the sea, more than twice as much as in the Gulf of Mexico.

I think I'm going to wait for actual scientists to do their science, than defer to earnest message board posters.

Just not being able to see the oil doesn't imply that toxins and hydrocarbon compounds aren't doing damage in the food chain and the biosphere.

I think we learned that at Prince William Sound.

Surprisingly, I think actual experts and scientists will have a better shot at monitoring and studying the long term effects of this spill, than your standard, garden-variety message board dupes.

TP has been an apologist for BP since Deepwater Horizon first started gushin' like a Russian.

He probably owns stock in BP and/or works for them.

He's let his hatred for the USA and his BritTwit contempt for Americans show.

He's awfully quick to declare the Gulf cleansed of oil, isn't he?

What we will see is that the British have finally woken up and realised that the US doesn't have our best interests at heart, not before time in my view.

I think most of the country was already well aware of that but perhaps somebody should make David Camerons aware of the situation.

1.6 million barrels of oil were dumped into the English Channel when the Amoco Cadiz was shipwrecked, yet there was no lasting damage. The Gulf is much bigger and the waters are far warmer so use your own brain and work it out for yourself.
