Nah, the people pushing it out still haven't fully realized the speed at which bullshit gets detected and countered. In the "old days" of the pre-internet this story wouldn't be countered until after the election. It's like the phony Bush memos that did Dan Rather in at CBS. Those took just 72 hours to be thoroughly discredited. A decade prior it would have taken six months.
You might be surprised by how many people are really computer illiterate even today. I'm not talking being able to use an app on a smart phone or send an e-mail, but rather barely be able to use a word processor, be confused by spreadsheets, and has no real idea how to research something using the internet coupled with 'old fashioned' research skills.
Those that do possess such skills can demolish millimeter deep arguments and sweeping generalizations in a minute. That's why this story tanked so fast. There's simply too many people that were involved in that trip and internet access to them makes it possible to discover the truth in nothing flat. These days, all someone has to do to make a story like this truly credible is post a video with sound of it happening. Virtually everyone has a smart phone and one person using one at an event like the one at the heart of this matter could have caught Trump in the act.
But nothing like that has come forward. Just unnamed sources claiming stuff happened.
