81 Percent Say US on Wrong Track

The vast majority of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a CBS News-New York Times poll. Eighty-one percent of respondents say they believe the nation has run off track, a record for the poll, which was first conducted in the eary 1990s.

But the surge is working and the shopping centers are still busy...How can we be on the wrong track ?

McSame will still get votes.

Looks like to me some of even the steadfast bush 30% really do realize he screwed teh pooch and just dont wan to admitt the fact in other polls.

It is looking like I was right yet again. By Nov. no sane person will vote for anyone associated with Bush.

Of course that still leaves that 30% or so....

maybe their number is down to 19% from looking at this poll?

I doubt it Desh, Those 30% say it is the democratic majority in congress that caused it all.

I seriously think they have mental issues. Not necessarially insane, but about a half bubble out of plumb.

Hardly a surprise. Half want us to surrender in Iraq, while the other half want us to increase our fighting, win, and then stop. Half want more goodies from government, while the other half wants less goodies and more restrained spending.

This has been so for years. It's just getting more polarized as we draw closer to the election.

One of the nice things about being a pollster, is that you get to erase some questions from your poll, such as "What would you like to see the administration do, to gain your approval?". Such a question would let you point out the vast differences in people's expectations, as well as their often-impossible extent... differences that no politician could ever bridge.

That's kind of a convoluted way of apologizing for Bush.

HuSame might get a few votes too.

Who will get most of the remaining votes?

This statement is utter bullshit. the sad thing is you believe such stupidity no matter how many facts you are presented. This is what conservative means . Dont bother them with the facts they want to keep believing the same thing no matter what.

We won the war remember?

This is an occupation and you dont "win" an occupation you just unoccupy.

The vast majority of Americans want is to unoccupy.

Only closed minded fools like you think we are at "war" with Iraq and will "win" by staying until evey last Iraqi is dead.

I think it can hardly be contested that, sure, public opinion changes more than the direction of the wind, but there are few times when people are so fed up that the polling numbers come back so lopsided on something as important as the direction of the country. That is not "par for the course", it's a message.

This president will hold the rollercoaster record in polls.

He took a time when the world and country were completetly behind him and squandered it.

Depends on how you look at it. He routed hundreds of billions to buddies business interests.

But a straightforward, and even truthful, way of explaining the poll presented in the OP. That WAS what the thread was for, wasn't it?

Or was the OP merely a convoluted way of attacking Bush? By presenting a result while carefully refraining from explaining how that result most likely came about? Perhaps you were hoping that people would think it showed disgreement with Bush rather than inability to agree on ANY course of action?

You're right, it's convoluted. But not on my part. :pke:

(profanity and namecalling, and fibs about imaginary "occupations" and "what Acorn thinks" deleted)

Hmmm, when you take the falsehoods and other trash out of desh's posts, you're left with nothing at all.

Shouldn't be surprised, I guess. :clink:

No. You're first response was basically rationalizing in a way that might expect us to believe that we'd get these poll results no matter who was President, and no matter what the conditions in the country were. "Oh, people always respond this way...it's no big deal, and certainly no reflection on the administration."

You are an apologist's apologist - a koolaid guzzler extraordinaire. You are a proud dittohead, and someone who thinks Ann Coulter is a good source of information regarding Barak Obama or any other Democrat. In short, your opinion is worthless. I'm sure you think ol' Bushie has done a heckuva job, and that Iraq was the best foreign policy decision in decades, and that the economy is rockin'.

anyone should be able to look at this poll and clearly understand that 75% of the 81% have 2% chance of understanding it's the fault of 98% of the people in government causing 110% of the problems.

betting parlors probably have Obama a huge favorite. 35 percent still claim republican vs 55 for dems. I don't see enough racist gun loving bubbas to get Mcfossil a win.

There's a perfectly logical explanation to why 81% of americans think that way.

It's a liberal poll! It really doesn't reflect what americans think. You guys need to tune in to Rush Limbaughs radio show more often to hear the truth about those socialist, liberal-terrorist nazis. No bias allowed there!
