Alito refuses to recuse

A large part of the Supreme Court is to preserve the checks and balances. Since Trump, that function has been destroyed. They are slanted bigly and answer to Trump and the far right. They do not care about the image of the court. Some righty judges are taking gifts by the truckload. They are destroying the court in respect and function.
It is worse than that. The Court is now captured.

Many people were left scratching their head when the SC ruled making most forms of bribes to Congress legal. There was this WTF thought of 'why are they making bribes so much easier', and then we found out. The types of bribes they were making legal for congress were the types of bribes Alito and Thomas were eating like Skittles. So they were trying to protect themselves in advance.

This SC has empowered extreme gerrymandering, which is, BY FAR, the most responsible for the current state of divide in America as it pushes parties to create safe seats that appeal to the extremes of the left and right and where compromise is a bad word. Without such gerrymandering the politicians would tend to the middle (compromise) to get the most votes.

This SC has empowered unlimited big money to flow into politics, which has created an incentive structure of 'us (the people) versus them (corporation and oligarchs)'.

The rich right capturing the Court is responsible for 90% of what is going wrong in America currently.

Alito’s Aggrieved Letter to Congress Tips His Hand in the Jan. 6 Cases

And his excuse is down right ridiculous. It also proves that this little "ethics pledge" they all reluctantly signed on to last fall is just as useless as I said at the time.

In Alito’s telling, he not only won’t recuse but in fact can’t recuse from the insurrection cases. Why? Because, he suggests, the nonbinding and entirely subjective ethics code to which the nine justices half-heartedly committed themselves this past fall requires that they remain on cases when they personally decide there’s no legitimate reason to recuse. Alito therefore asserts an “obligation” to hear the Trump-related cases.

So the ethics code is, we discover, mandatory, but only in the sense that it converts a justice’s hostility toward recusal into an affirmative duty not to recuse. (We trust that Alito, like the other Republican-appointed justices, will continue to disregard the ethics suggestions he dislikes.)
Why didn't Merchan recuse?

Why would he?
He's a Biden donor. His daughter fundraised on her daddy "getting Trump".

He isn't capable of giving a fair ruling on the matter, as shown by all of his courtroom antics throughout the whole persecution session that some people are pretending was a trial.

He donated $35. Not all of it to the Biden campaign.

His daughter is an adult and her behavior is her own, plus I believe that's been debunked anyway.
