Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) has expressed his opposition to a public option at Town Hall events stocked with insurance company Astroturfers.
Ironically, as a member of Congress Posey receives health care benefits remarkably better than those proposed in the reform packages under consideration. Hypocrite Posey also received free health care courtesy of taxpayers during his years in the Florida Legislature.
Taxpayers pay up to 70 percent of Congress members’ premiums.
Meanwhile, in the real world, 47 million Americans have no health care and many are dying for lack of it every day.
During a Town Hall a real citizen (not an insurance lobby shill) asked Posey, “Why should taxpayers pay for your insurance when you clearly make enough money to pay for it on your own?”
After reading the question aloud, Posey replied sarcastically, “One of the perks of the job, I guess!”
Posey then stated his unwillingness to extend guaranteed, affordable, quality insurance to all Americans.
