In 12 step programs, the 4th step involves a moral inventory of oneself. A self assessment identifying your life values and principles, character flaws, etc.

4th month, 4th step.

Many JPP posters could use an honest self assessment.

Why do you come here?

To actually discuss issues or merely to troll?
To seek truth or to spread lies and disinformation?
To try to convince and persuade or to mock and show disdain?
To demonstrate your open mindedness or your ignorance?
Do you ban people out of cowardice or fear?

On and on….

I do not know why I am still here many years later, but I do remember that I first came here because I had no concept as to how anybody could honestly support, George W Bush, and I figured that by debating some of his supporters, I could maybe gain some sort of understanding as to who these crazy people are.

In my man cave, the 12-step program is to get from the recliner to the bathroom.
About eight steps gets you to the basement level fridge.

TV. Refrigerator. Toilet. That covers pretty much everything important from my perspective,

There is very little policy difference between GWB, Obama, Hillary or Biden. All of them are owned by the banksters and the war machine.

Even if the second sentence is completely true,
that doesn't come close to proving the first sentence.

Disagree. Only one started a war. Only one was hostile to minorities and homosexuals. Only one was a bully. Only one set up a view of the world as us v them. Only one came from the elite class. Only one came from extreme wealth. Only one worked to force the system that promote the class system that he was born into.

I use this place to practice good behavior in a sea of bad, and to lead by example.

Certainly to actually discuss issues, learn how others view them; to seek truth; to be as open as possible to learning and correcting misconceptions.

I use the ignore feature rather extensively to filter out garbage posters because I prefer to indulge in quality political discussions and not personal attacks or harassment during my limited time here.

One of the biggest benefits of coming here for me is learning. I often spend more time researching what I post than actually posting it.

Since everything posted here becomes a searchable record it behooves posters to consider well what they post before posting it. Your words can come back to haunt you. Will you be as adamant about what you say when reminded of it ten years later? That is a good question to ask before making a post.
 
The nice thing about a discussion forum is you can take your time in making a post or a reply. there is no obligation to post within a certain amount of time. This is huge compare to IRL. IRL the pressure is on. The time clock is ticking. You know you've got to say something or the moment is lost. Here, you can take all the time you like, do all the research you want, let emotions settle, write something, let it sit, don't post it, come back, reread it, change it, make it better. There is even some time after posting something to go back and edit it or delete it. It's possible to be way more thoughtful here than IRL.

But naturally, that requires the will power to use this uncanny advantage over IRL. Not all seem to be able to do so.

I started doing this in the lead up to Bush lying us to war


I keep doing it because I can reach more people here than I can in person



The truth needs all the support it can get


Lies need to be plastered over with the truth


I try to do my tiny bit
