Obama denied a military flyover at the annual “God and Country” rally in
Idaho , where new military recruits were inducted and all military were
honored. This is the first time in 42 years that there has not been a
military flyover in formation, and organizers were stunned that Obama
refused to allow this.

Why was this asshole ever elected? What the hell is the problem with Democrats? Can you really be as ignorant as you seem ?

Yeah, I get it. Obama is being scrupulous regarding separation of religion and state, the request coming from a group that puts the "religion" before the "patriotism", and you're whining because he's upholding the Constitution. Nice work selectively cutting and pasting the part you hate but not the reasons behind the decision.

This request was denied, with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) citing a policy of not allowing military flyovers at events with religious themes. That policy, which was adopted by the DoD in November 2001 (during the administration of George W. Bush), prohibits the military's support of events that "provide a selective benefit to any individual, group or organization, including any religious or sectarian organization." Regarding the question of why this policy was invoked in 2009 but not earlier, Pentagon officials said military flyovers were staged at the event in previous years because the God and Country Festival then focused more on patriotism and avoided direct ties to Christianity.

As to the issue of whether the God and Country Festival is now a community event of primarily religious purpose (as opposed to, say, a patriotism or veterans appreciation event in which includes mentions of God and Christianity but does not make those elements the focus of the gathering), the event's organizers have stated that "Our mission is primarily about spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ," they identify four steps to witnessing about Jesus Christ (i.e., bless people, fellowship with them, meet their needs, present the Truth), and say of the rally's program of events: "At the end of the evening, we move to step four, presenting the Truth. Each year, we ensure that the message of the Gospel is presented, and information is provided for those who have heard and want to know more about Jesus Christ." They also noted (in response to the flyover denial) that "We want to make it clear that although [the God and Country Festival] is unashamedly a Christian event, a major part of the Festival is honoring our troops who protect our freedom to assemble."

We contacted the group at the Pentagon in charge of organizing flyovers for civilian events regarding the possibility for future flyovers for this festival, and they told us that:
The guidelines applied by the Air Force that govern the approval process for aircraft flyovers are stipulated by Department of Defense regulations. These guidelines are not the result of new policies directed by any other agency or government office.

Each aviation request received is evaluated and considered on its own merits. In the case of the God and Country Festival, the determination was made that flyover support would not be in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy which prohibits support for events which appear to endorse, selectively benefit, or favor any special interest or religious organization, regardless of the event date.

If Obama is personally handing request for flyovers then yes, I am very sorry.

The fact that he denied the request, Nigel, is a direct indication that he is involved in the request(s) for flyovers, but please do try and find him some wiggle room on this.

We certainly understand wanting to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear on this one.

The bold is not a fact. It's an assertion. I'm sure the DoD or the Air Force of whomever denied the request but, as I said, if the president is involving himself in decisions on request for flyovers then I'm very sorry to have voted for him.

The Secretary of Defense, head of the DoD, reports directly to the President, Nigel. It was the first time in 42 years that it has been denied and the only thing that was different is a new White House Administration that has publicly distanced itself from many events that are Christian oriented.

This indeed was a Christian supported event, but it's main purpose and goal was to honor new inductees into the military and to honor all military personnel. Up until now, there hasn't been a problem, but you go ahead and stick a feather in it's hat and call if Macaroni, Nigel.

Obama has in effect said to the Christians in America. You either put aside your beliefs, accept abortions, give your children condoms, and acquiesce to gay marriage or else you will get no funding, no side benefits, nothing.

I can certainly see wanting to come to Obama's defense and the need to prop him up at all costs. Lord knows he needs it.

You guys were sold a major bill of goods and quite frankly it has to be really embarrassing.

I feel sorry for you, but think positive! Egg whites help tighten the pores on your face!

Silver lining and all.

Now that everyone's had the chance to read disloyals' hate-filled, shamelessly partisan version of events....lets check in with a little something I like to call "the truth".

You miss the point again....

This is the first time in 42 years that there has not been a
military flyover in formation, and organizers were stunned that Obama
refused to allow this.

So, in reality, when the policy was adapted is quite irrelevant...
Seems the policy was ignored by Bush for 8 years and put to use by Obama the first chance he had....

you grasp unto the minor crap and ignore whats important...

God and County members are unapologetically Christian...the reason the event was allowed in years past is because the "event" in question's purpose was patriotic in nature and supported the military specifically. That did not change...the only change is in the administration!

Rational American's have, and continue to have, the ability to understand this important distinction. The flyover was does not happen at any of their other events, gatherings, or picnics...just this one time each year since 1967.

Below are the criteria for approve/disapove flyovers. I have boldened the rational for disaproval this year, but underlined why it is non-sense to do so! I have boldened and underlined why they have been allowed to approve flyovers despite the attempt to use "religious" as the rationale this year as opposed to years past.

Because the event has never hidden their religious beliefs; that this events focus is patriotic and not religious allows for approval.

8.6.1.2. Disapproved.

8.6.1.2.1. Intended, or which appear to endorse, selectively benefit, or favor, any private individual, special interest group, business, religious, ideological movement, commercial venture, political candidate, or organization.

8.6.1.2.2. For the purpose of soliciting votes in a political election.

8.6.1.2.3. Commercially sponsored and intended to increase sales and business traffic (such as a business/mall grand opening, motion picture promotion or beauty pageant).

8.6.1.2.4. For fundraising events see paragraph 8.6.1.1.8.

8.6.1.2.5. In a situation where the real or apparent purpose is to stage controversy or public confrontation. This also includes fundraising appeals approved by the President or Chairman of the Office of Personnel Management or military service aid societies.

8.6.2. Participation Criteria--Sponsor.

8.6.2.1. Approved.

8.6.2.1.1. Local, state, or federal governments.

8.6.2.1.2. A veterans, military Service related, patriotic, or historical organization, or its auxiliary.

8.6.2.1.3. A civic, service, youth, professional, educational, trade, or labor organization interested in supporting the Air Force.

8.6.2.1.4. Organizations whose membership is based on sex or national origin, if the program is for the entire community and not to promote the organization's objectives.

8.6.2.1.5. A commercial enterprise when Air Force support is patriotic in nature, is incidental to the primary program, and does not selectively benefit the commercial activity of the sponsor. The sponsor's role must be clearly civic in nature and not commercial.

Who cares if obama is directly responsible for denying a fly over or not, the fact of the matter remains, he's a complete piece of shit.

Here's something to ponder:

Jesus said He saw Satan as “lightening from the Heavens” Luke 10:18

The original word for “lightening” is “baraq”

The word used for the Heavens or the heights is “bamah” or “bam-maw”. Isaiah 14: 14

The letters “U” or “O” are used as a conjunction to join concepts together. So, lightening from the heights would read Baraq “O” Bam-Maw or Baraq “U” Bam-Maw

Let's see who runs with this. :)

Guys like bravo are the perfect patsies for these sorts of erumor campaigns.

And he actually started a thread for it.

I get the point perfectly. I'm afraid you're the one who's on shaky ground. What you haven't addressed is the establishment and free exercise clause of the First Amendment.

The group's mission is overtly religious: "Our mission is primarily about spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ," they identify four steps to witnessing about Jesus Christ (i.e., bless people, fellowship with them, meet their needs, present the Truth), and say of the rally's program of events: "At the end of the evening, we move to step four, presenting the Truth. Each year, we ensure that the message of the Gospel is presented, and information is provided for those who have heard and want to know more about Jesus Christ."

This flyover took place previously because nobody cared to challenge it on constitutional grounds. This group is perfectly free to honor veterans any way they wish that doesn't involve participation by a government entity. Conservatives like you whine incessantly that liberals are destroying the Constitution, but are quick to make exceptions when the actions support your views.

Just curious, why has this become Obama's baby and not the DOD's?

70 recruits sworn in to serve the military at the event....obviously means the military is well represented at this event in large numbers....

42 years of flyovers at this event, including 8 years under George Bush....

2009, same event,...flyover denied...Whats changed ?...only one thing...a new President (Obama)

End of story.

Just so you know, this action is a direct result of an atheist organization Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) who do not care about soldiers or the military per se, but only of preventing the military from any association with religion. The specific person responsible is Chris Rodda from ....the Daily Kos.

This specific event falls on a patriotic holiday and its focus was on honoring soldiers two reasons why it was always approved in the past. It was denied because it is a Christian organization and the military now have rabid groups of atheists applying pressure against programs like this one that honor our men and women in uniform.
